Providing outstanding care through gentle manual therapy
What is Classical Osteopathy?
Osteopathy was founded by Dr A.T. Still and is a pure science founded on the principles of natural law. This form of treatment varies from case to case as the practitioner uses their in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology and mechanical principles. Through gentle adjustment of the body the operator works to remove obstruction that restrict the flow of arteries, veins, nerves and lymphatics. Once the body is balanced and all restrictions are removed the body is able to heal naturally through our intrinsic self-healing and self regulating mechanism.
“A scientific knowledge of anatomy and physiology in the hands of intelligence and skill, who can apply this knowledge in the use of one who is sick or wounded by strains, shocks, falls or mechanical derangement or injury of any kind”
– Dr. A.T. Still
Who Can Benefit From Treatment?
People from all ages can benefit from osteopathy, infants to the elderly through all of life cycles. With proper treatment patients can see resolution of symptoms, while treatment can also be preventative, and/or palliative.
Osteopathy can help but it not limited to:
Acute and chronic pain
Migraines and headaches
Pre and Post Natal (carpal tunnel, circulation, general pains, pelvic floor etc.)
Congestion/circulation problems and much more!
Are All Practitioners Created Equal?
Unfortunately not all practitioners are created equal. It is important to ensure that the practitioner you choose has completed a 4 year education at a recognized school and that their association is in good standing with the Insurance Industry.
All Osteopathic Manual Practitioners at Body Mechanik have completed their 4 year education at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy which is a 4 year, 4400 hour program that includes 1000 hours of supervised student clinic. They are also part of the Ontario Osteopathic Association which is fully recognized by the insurance industry.
Rehabilitative Manual Therapists at Body Mechanik are in their final years of education at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy and are working towards finishing their education. Since they are still completing their education, treatments provided by rehabilitative manual therapists cannot be covered by your extended health care benefits.
