We are excited to bring a new offering to Body Mechanik clients, designed especially for parents with babies. Synchronous treatment, where parent and child get treated at the same time, in the same room, each with their own practitioner, is coming in March!

Rayne and Meredith will be offering a limited number of synchronous appointments on Fridays starting March 6th. Read on to learn more about how this style of treatment can benefit your growing family.

Synchronous Treatment- Parents and Little Ones Together

It can be difficult for parents with new babies to find the time and opportunity to care for themselves. Synchronous appointments keep baby occupied with their own treatment, so that parents can receive the osteopathy they need too. At Body Mechanik, we see the family the same way we see the body- many parts that ultimately need to function together as a harmonious whole. What affects one part of the family, or the body, can have an effect on every other part. When baby is struggling with their health, whether it be feeding, movement preferences, or difficulty sleeping, to name just a few, then the parents also struggle, and vice versa. Synchronous treatment addresses each family member so that the whole is healthier, calmer and more easeful in its functioning.

Because parent and baby are scheduled for one appointment time (half an hour), you’re in and out more quickly. This can be a lifesaver if baby doesn’t care for their carseat, or needs to be held to be happy, and makes it easier to schedule treatment around naps and feeding times. One practitioner will treat mom or dad, while the other treats baby, in the same clinic room so that both parent and child are comfortable. Our practitioners always wear masks when treating babies, and synchronous treatment is no different.

Here are some answers to the questions you may have about synchronous treatment.

FAQs:

  • What ages can participate in synchronous treatment?

This type of treatment is best suited for babies from brand-new newborns up to 6 months.

  • How do I schedule a synchronous appointment?

Synchronous treatments will be offered Friday mornings with Rayne and Meredith. To inquire about availability and book a treatment, please email us at contact@bodymechanik.ca or call the clinic at 519-594-1554. Online booking is not available for synchronous appointments. Spots are limited so we recommend booking ahead.

Child osteopathy session tips also include appropriate dressing to ensure both your child and the osteopathic practitioner remain comfortable during the session. Tight-fitted clothing, puffy clothing, or accessories can be hard to work around. Soft, flowy, and loose clothing is preferred to observe your child’s posture, head position, or limb movements more effectively.

  • Can my baby and I have a synchronous treatment if it’s our first time at the clinic?

Because we want to ensure adequate time for each new patient, we do not offer synchronous appointments for initial visits. At your first visit, your practitioner will explain the benefits and potential side effects of osteopathic treatment, and go over your health history and current complaint in detail. Once you and your child have both had first visits, you are welcome to book follow-up synchronous sessions. If you have previously seen any of our practitioners at the clinic, you do not need another initial visit.

  • What if my baby needs me during treatment?

Our practitioners are very accustomed to working with and around children, and have many tricks up their sleeve for keeping your baby calm and occupied during their treatment. That being said, if your baby becomes fussy and needs you to help them settle, we can continue to treat both you and your little one while you hold them. If need be, treatments can continue with baby on parent’s chest, or while being fed. Rest assured, your baby fussing does not stress us out or interfere with our ability to deliver treatment. Their needs come first and we will help facilitate a smooth experience for you both.

  • How does the payment structure work?

Fees remain the same for synchronous sessions. Adults pay $95 including HST for their treatment, while baby’s treatment is $65 including tax (please note this price will be changing to $85 including tax on April 1st, 2026). Our payment system makes it easy to pay for both treatments with one transaction, and two receipts will be issued.

It is our hope that synchronous treatments will help make osteopathic care more accessible for our growing client base of families with young children. If you have questions about this type of treatment, osteopathy in general, or would like to book an appointment, please email us at contact@bodymechanik.ca or call the clinic at 519-594-1554 and one of our practitioners will be happy to assist you.
